Sept 29 - Limber Pine Nature Trail (Bear Lake area)
Around 1pm, it's time to complete my day with a drive to Bear Lake. Again, this will be my 1st time there.
What a fanstastic drive out of Bringham City towards Logan. First it's a drive thru Logan Canyon and then it's wide open spaces which I absolutely love. There are horses and cows (even corn).
Then it's more canyon on HWY 89 to Garden City. The road is beautiful as it follow the Logan River. Lots of places to pull off (campgrounds, picnic areas, just pull-offs). Lots of Pit Toilets too!
I pass a mine on the left side of the road. There's a big gate in front of it.
I zoom pass another big hole in the wall. It came up with no warning. I did see a car pulled off and the couple then it was too late. I thought about turning around but I just kept going.
I've arrived above the Bear Lake Valley and get my first view of Bear Lake.
Now it's a drop down many switchbacks and curves to arrive in Garden City.
I arrive in Garden City around 3:30. 1/2 before I can check in. The marina is across from my condo so I spot there and walk around. Bear Lake is much bigger than I thought but its the end of the season so it is low.My first stop is the marina. It's part of Bear Lake State Park; lucky I have my pass.
Plenty of boats in the marina.
I use Google to find my place but it's confused. I see my building # but don't quite know where to go so I ask. I'm in!!
I dump my stuff and it's about 5pm so I grab my lunch now supper.
Afterwards, I head out to hike the Limber Pine Nature Trail. It's only 1.3 miles; it's a loop and the highlight is a 560 year old Limber Pine Tree - at least I think because the sign at the trail head states 2560 years old which conflicts with the sign at the actual tree.
Very shaded hike; I'm sure the rain clouds blocking the sun (at times) help with the shadiness. It's basically thru a Pine forest and it's pretty easy (except my legs hurt are so dead right now).
