Oct 11 - Lambs Canyon

It's a beautiful day - sunny, mid-70s - heading up to Lambs Canyon after work for a quick hike.

Wow! The parking is about full when I arrive around 3:30.

It's sunny here too with temps in the low 60s.

The drive up to the trailhead was filled with color - though it seems to be fading.

I gear up and start up the trail. I am quickly met be a Forest Service guy (with hardhat). They are doing forest fire suppression work. Not sure what that means. There were signs indicating that was happening last year too but I never saw and signs of it. I'm interesting to see what they have done/are doing up the trail.

Rounding only the second corner I see what they have done. It's amazing! Piles of logs and other debris and the forest floor is open and clean. Looks incredible!

They cleared about to the meadow - I can actually see uphill and down into the drainage. The plants are going to love this next Spring. And I bet the moose/deer and other critters are enjoying the much easier walking.

No more hidden boogeymen :)

Flowers are basically all gone except I do find a few Geraniums

and one composite and an Aster. Lots of brown!!

But it's quiet - not even squirrel/chipmunk noises.

As I get higher, it get much more colorful - aspens higher up.

The last switchback is covered in yellow Aspen leaves. Will be slippery when it eventually rains or snow.

My final steps on the switchback is thru a tunnel of yellow aspens - perfect climax.

The viewpoint is very windy; there goes a lot of the leaves. :(

It's pretty hazy with the lowering sun but still pretty.

Well it's time to head down.

Along the way I pass a hunter (in camo) with a bow-n-arrow. I looked it's extended Elk and deer season. First hunter I've seen on this trail but then I can't say it I've ever been on this trail in October.

As I pass thru the meadow I hear an Elk call. It's definitely an elk call! Awesome! First time I've heard and Elk call in a very long time - talking 20 years or so - so naturally its the first time for me in Utah.

I take a few more steps and it calls again for the final time.

Part of me wonders if that was the hunter calling but it's a Elk!

Farther down, I pass another hunter with a gun. He's hunting moose.

Awesome day!
