Sept 25 - Twin Lakes Loop (Big Cottonwood Canyon)
Sunny day with temps near 80 degrees today. When I leave my house just after 7am, the temp is in the mid-50s. Will be in the 30s at Silver Lake but that fine as I have my light winter coat and gloves; I'm prepared and actually looking forward to that 1st hoar frost.
I got a report that 1/2 the Silver Lake parking and the right side of the trail to the footbridge will be closed starting 9/23; they are rebuilding it.
Well, it's 9/25 and it's still open - yea! There some construction containers present so I'm thinking the work will being tomorrow (Monday). But for now, I start up the trail in my normal counter-clockwise direction.
It's in the 30s and there's a light frost on the boardwalk and some puddles next to the boardwalk are frozen. Not cold enough for the hoar frost yet.
No moose around as far as I can see. And the aspens are starting to change in spots.
There are a few Mallards on the lake.
And a few Asters still hanging on around the lake.I reach the trail and start up towards Lake Solitude.
The plants are brown/dry at this point. There a few stragglers.
Quiet walk; just me and the squirrels and chipmunks who are very busy finding food for winter.
I reach Lake Solitude; looks empty this morning.
I start up the big hill. Nothing exciting on the way up just climbing.
I finish the climb and head over to my perch. Yes, the trees are starting to change.
I take a short break before heading down to Twin Lakes. The lake is still dropping = more beachfront property.
Heading down.
Down on the switchback, it's looking a bit like Fall down on Lake Solitude!
Hey, I actually see 2 Pika!
Still no vegetation piles.
As I finish crossing the switchback, I see 2 deer (doe and fawn) trot across the trail in front of me! Yea!
Back at Silver Lake, I see a bunch of ducks all huddled up.
Good day!
