June 19 - Lambs Canyon

Mostly sunny day with temps in the low 70s (yes, a break from the 90 degree weather).

My original plan was to head up to Twin Lakes this morning but then I decided to do my 1st hike up Lambs Canyon this year.

I arrive just after 8am and start-up the trail. It's in the low 60s and although the sun is out, the trail is mostly in the shade w/ spots of sun - typical early morning.

Lots of vegetation!

There are Blue Violet, Bluebells, Geraniums (both white and pink), Lupine, (some bloomers), Heart-leafed Arnica (that's trying to come into bloom) in the lower sections along the creek - which by the way is flowing.

I manage to scare up/spot Western Tiger Swallowtails

and Pale Swallowtail (1st sighting of the year - saw 4 on the lower sections)

trying to get warmed up.

A little higher, I see a Western Tailed Blue and Dreamy Duskywing (first time I've every seen them on the trail)

On the rest of the trail, the Virgin Bowers, Vetch, Meadow Rue are blooming.

Hey, the moon is still out this morning!

Started about at the meadow, the Baneberry is blooming. The Thimbleberries have buds but no flowers yet.

Surprise again! I find another Dreamy Duskywing not far from the last switchback. Wow!

The White Columbine have buds and along the last long switchback I find one in bloom.

Along with some Spring Beauties and Virginia Waterleaf.

Nice view at the top.

On the way down, I see a West Coast Lady (I don't see these often),

several Parnassians and a Northern Checkerspot.

Awesome day!
