May 5 - Desolation Trail (Millcreek Canyon)

Partly sunny day with highs in the low 70s. It's a good day for an after work hike.

Heading up to hike the Desolation Trail to Salt Lake Overlook.

When I arrive just after 3pm, the clouds have rolled in and it's around 67 degrees in the canyon. Still a good day for a hike!

I gear up and start up the trail. The trail is wet of a couple of days of rain but not really muddy (ok, there are a few spots but they are mostly where the snow has been melting).

There's a definite reduction in Avalanche Lilies now but there are still a few spots they are hanging in or just starting to bloom.

Spring Beauties are still going strong and the Virginia Waterleaf blooms are still increasing.

Another tree has fallen. This one closer to the trail start. I don't have to climb over this one as it is leaning across the trail against another tree; it's a bridge.

I see a butterfly in the same spot I saw a few the other day. (Comma or CA Tortoiseshell)

I see a few Spotted Towhees and a pair of Flicker up on the last switchback.

When I get to the overlook, I scare a CA Tortoiseshell; he doesn't come back.

It's the best view of SLC I seen on this trail so far this year!!

Good day!
